Water quality in East Africa is very variable. We offer a wide range of water analysis to enable you to make the right management decisions.

Irrigation water Analysis

High Sodium, excess salinity, high bicarbonates are all big problems when irrigating crops. Knowing the chemistry of you water will help you better manage the water and your soil. The sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) for example, is a critical calculation for assessing the suitability of irrigation water and is based on relationship between sodium, calcium and magnesium in your water. Water with a high SAR can quickly degrade soil structure – but this can be avoided, with the use of gypsum, for example.

Water analysis for Suitability for Spraying and Foliar Feeding

The quality of water used in spray tanks and for foliar feeding has enormous effect on the efficacy of the products being applied. Using poor quality water for spraying can cost you lots of money, as your chemical rates need to increase and you foliar feeds precipitate into insoluble forms in the tank before they even reach the crop. We have designed an analysis that takes into account the most important physical and chemical parameters of spray water.

Water Analysis for filtration purposes

In order to improve the quality of irrigation water, filtration systems are often required. In order to install the most suitable type of filtration system, a good knowledge of the water quality is essential. For example, removal of high iron requires a very different design of filtration system to when removing colour from tannins.

Water sampling

The information and recommendations we supply you are based on an analysis of the water sample you supply us. It is therefore essential that the sample you send to our laboratory truly represents the water source from where it is taken. Please take time to read the our recommended sampling protocol so we can give you quality information from each water sample you send us. Read more about How to take a good water soil sample.

Very important: When sampling for microbiological parameters that you must use a sterile bottle – we can supply these, please just request on email. These samples should be refrigerated if possible in a cooler box and sent to our lab within 8 hours of sampling.

Submitting water samples

In order for us to process your water sample as quickly as possible we request you fill out a sample submission form giving us all the information relating to your samples. This information really helps our sample intake team and ensures accurate information on your water analysis report. Click here to download our Irrigation & Farm Water sample submission form.
